Thin Black Line(s) Symposium - Making it Happen
Conway Hall London February 28th 2012
The symposium was designed to bring together artists exhibiting in the Tate Britain exhibition to see whether we might be able to develop some collaborative discussions around making and the development of ideas.
The day was structured in such a way that the speakers Claudette Johnson, Ingrid Pollard, Sutapa Biswas, Ella Mills (for Maud Sulter) and Lubaina Himid all gave papers which enabled the delegates to participate in the wider discussion and explore some of the ideas around the work in greater depth.
The delegates included Marlene Smith, Alan Rice, Yvonne Hardman, Susan Walsh, Celeste Bernier, Geoff Quilley, Chantal Oakes, Jane Beckett, Dinah Wynch, Griselda Pollock, Ajamu, Frances Scott and Deborah Cherry. A major outcome, easily achieved, was that the delegates all artists, historians and/or curators had time, space and opportunity to meet and talk to the speakers at several points during the day. We hope that a number of collaborative projects will emerge and develop as a result.
